Ezekiel 34:11-20“For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice. 17 “As for you, my flock, thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and male goats. 18 Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture; and to drink of clear water, that you must muddy the rest of the water with your feet? 19 And must my sheep eat what you have trodden with your feet, and drink what you have muddied with your feet? 20 “Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them: Behold, I, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Psalm 951 O come, let us sing unto the LORD; * let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and show ourselves glad in him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is a great God * and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are all the depths of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands prepared the dry land. 6 O come, let us worship and fall down, * and kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For he is our God, * and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. 8 Today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts * as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness, 9 When your fathers tested me, * and put me to the proof, though they had seen my works. 10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation and said, * “It is a people that err in their hearts, for they have not known my ways,” 11 Of whom I swore in my wrath * that they should not enter into my rest. All: Glory to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. 1 Corinthians 15:20-28But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. 28When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all. Zephaniah 1:7,12-18Be silent before the LORD God! For the day of the LORD is near; the
LORD has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests. 12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are complacent, those who say in their hearts, ‘The LORD will not do good, nor will he do ill.’ 13 Their goods shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them.” 14 The great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the LORD is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there. 15 A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements. 17 I will bring distress on mankind, so that they shall walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD; their blood shall be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the LORD. In the fire of his jealousy, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full and sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 90:1-12(13-17)1 Lord, you have been our refuge *
from one generation to another. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or the earth and the world were made, * you are God from everlasting, and world without end. 3 You turn man back to the dust; * you say, “Return, O children of men.” 4 For a thousand years in your sight are as yesterday, * even as a day that is past. 5 You scatter them as a night-watch that comes quickly to an end; * they are even as a dream and fade away. 6 They are like the grass, which in the morning is green, * but in the evening is dried up and withered. 7 For we consume away in your displeasure * and are afraid at your wrathful indignation. 8 You have set our misdeeds before you, * and our secret sins in the light of your countenance. 9 For when you are angry, all our days are gone; * we bring our years to an end, as a tale that is told. 10 The days of our life are seventy years, and though some be so strong that they come to eighty years, * yet is their span but labor and sorrow; so soon it passes away, and we are gone. 11 But who regards the power of your wrath, * and who considers the fierceness of your anger? 12 So teach us to number our days, * that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. ( 13 Turn again, O LORD, and tarry not; * be gracious unto your servants. 14 O satisfy us with your mercy in the morning; * so shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life. 15 Comfort us again, according to the measure of the days that you have afflicted us, * and for the years in which we have suffered adversity. 16 Show your servants your work * and their children your glory. 17 And may the grace of the Lord our God be upon us; * prosper the work of our hands; O prosper our handiwork.) All: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-10Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. 5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.

Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground
and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. Amos 5:18-2418 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you have the day of the Lord? It is darkness, and not light, 19 as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it? 21 “I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. 22 Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the peace offerings of your fattened animals, I will not look upon them. 23 Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen. 24 But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Psalm 701 Hasten, O God, to deliver me; * make haste to help me, O LORD. 2 Let them be ashamed and confounded who seek after my life; * let them be turned back and put to confusion who wish me evil. 3 Let them be soon brought to shame * who cry over me, “Aha! Aha!” 4 But let all those who seek you be joyful and glad in you; * and let all who delight in your salvation say always, “The Lord be praised.” 5 As for me, I am poor and in misery; * hasten to me, O God. 6 You are my helper and my deliverer; * O LORD, do not tarry. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-1813 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. Matthew 25:1-131 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Revelation 7:9-179 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” 13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Psalm 1491 Praise the Lord. O sing unto the LORD a new song; * let the congregation of the faithful praise him. 2 Let Israel rejoice in the one who made him, * and let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. 3 Let them praise his Name in the dance; * let them sing praises unto him with timbrel and harp. 4 For the LORD has pleasure in his people * and gives victory to those who are oppressed. 5 Let the faithful be joyful with glory; * let them rejoice upon their beds. 6 Let the praises of God be in their mouth * and a two-edged sword in their hands, 7 To inflict vengeance on the nations * and to rebuke the peoples, 8 To bind their kings in chains * and their nobles with links of iron, 9 Th at they may execute judgment upon them, as it is written; * such honor have all his faithful. Praise the Lord. Ephesians 1:11-2311 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Luke 6:20-3620 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. 22 “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. 24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. 26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets. 27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic[a] either. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31 And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
32 “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Isaiah 45:1-71 Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: 2 “I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who call you by your name. 4 For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me. 5 I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, 6 that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. 7 I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the Lord, who does all these things. Psalm 991 The Lord is King; let the peoples tremble; * he sits between the cherubim; let the earth shake. 2 The Lord is great in Zion * and high above all peoples. 3 They shall give thanks unto his Name, which is great and wonderful; * holy is he and mighty, a King who loves justice. 4 You have established equity; * you have executed judgment and righteousness in Jacob. 5 O magnify the Lord our God, * and fall down before his footstool, for he is holy. 6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, * they called upon the Lord, and he heard them. 7 He spoke to them out of the cloudy pillar, * for they kept his testimonies and the law that he gave them. 8 You heard them, O Lord our God; * you forgave them, O God, yet punished their evildoings. 9 O magnify the Lord our God, and worship him upon his holy hill, * for the Lord our God is holy 1 Thessalonians 1: 1-101 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

John 8:31-3631 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Malachi 3:6-126 “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. 7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ 8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. 12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. Psalm 961 O sing unto the LORD a new song; * sing unto the LORD, all the whole earth. 2 Sing unto the LORD and praise his Name; * tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his honor to the nations, * and his wonders to all peoples. 4 For the LORD is great, and highly to be praised; * he is more to be feared than all gods. 5 As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols; * but it is the LORD who made the heavens. 6 Glory and majesty are before him; * power and honor are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe unto the LORD, O you families of the peoples, * ascribe unto the LORD worship and power. 8 Ascribe unto the LORD the honor due unto his Name; * bring offerings and come into his courts. 9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; * let the whole earth stand in awe of him. 10 Tell it out among the nations, “The LORD is King; * it is he who has made the world so firm that it cannot be moved; he shall judge the peoples righteously.” 11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; * let the sea make a noise, and all that is therein. 12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it; * then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the LORD. 13 For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth, * and with righteousness to judge the world, and the peoples with his truth. 1 Thessalonians 1:1-101 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

Matthew 22:15-2215 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. 16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone's opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” 22 When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. The Psalm verses are taken from the New Coverdale Psalter of the BCP 2019. Isaiah 25:1-91 O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. 2 For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners' palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. 3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you. 4 For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall, 5 like heat in a dry place. You subdue the noise of the foreigners; as heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is put down. 6 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Psalm 231 The LORD is my shepherd; therefore I can lack nothing. 2 He shall feed me in green pastures and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. 3 He shall refresh my soul and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me. 5 You shall prepare a table before me, in the presence of those who trouble me; you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full. 6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Philippians 4:4-134 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. 10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Matthew 22:1-1422 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, 3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ 5 But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ 10 And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.” ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Isaiah 5:1-71 Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. 2 He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. 3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes? 5 And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. 6 I will make it a waste; it shall not be pruned or hoed, and briers and thorns shall grow up; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his pleasant planting; and he looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry! Psalm 80:7-197 Restore us again, O God of hosts; show the light of your countenance, and we shall be whole. 8 You have brought a vine out of Egypt; you have cast out the nations and planted it. 9 You made room for it, and when it had taken root, it filled the land. 10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the mighty cedar trees. 11 It stretched out its branches to the sea and its boughs to the river. 12 Why have you broken down its hedge, so that all those who go by pluck off its grapes? 13 The wild boar out of the wood roots it up, and the wild beasts of the field devour it. 14 Turn again, O God of hosts, look down from heaven; behold, and visit this vine, 15 And the place of the vineyard that your right hand has planted, and the branch that you made so strong for yourself. 16 As for those who burn it with fire and cut it down, let them perish at the rebuke of your countenance. 17 Let your hand be upon the man of your right hand and upon the son of man, whom you made so strong for yourself. 18 And so we will not turn back from you; O let us live, and we shall call upon your Name. 19 Restore us again, O LORD God of hosts; show the light of your countenance, and we shall be whole. Philippians 3:14-2114 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.
17 Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. 18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Matthew 21:33-4433 “Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. 34 When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. 35 And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37 Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.” 42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? 43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. 44 And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.” ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Ezekiel 18:1-4,25-32 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “What do you[a] mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge’? 3 As I live, declares the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.
25 “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? 26 When a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it; for the injustice that he has done he shall die. 27 Again, when a wicked person turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he shall save his life. 28 Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 29 Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? 30 “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.[a] 31 Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.” Psalm 25:1-14(15-21)1 Unto you, O LORD, will I lift up my soul; my God, I have put my trust in you; * O let me not be ashamed, neither let my enemies triumph over me. 2 For all those who hope in you shall not be ashamed, * but those who deal untruly shall be put to confusion. 3 Show me your ways, O LORD, * and teach me your paths. 4 Lead me forth in your truth and teach me, * for you are the God of my salvation; in you has been my hope all the day long. 5 Call to remembrance, O LORD, your tender mercies, * and your loving-kindnesses, which have been from of old. 6 O remember not the sins and offenses of my youth, * but according to your mercy think on me, O LORD, in your goodness. 7 Gracious and righteous is the LORD; * therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 8 Those who are meek shall he guide in judgment, * and those who are gentle shall he teach his way. 9 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth * to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. 10 For your Name’s sake, O LORD, * forgive my sin, for it is great. 11 Who is the one who fears the LORD? * He shall teach him in the way that he shall choose. 12 He shall dwell at ease, * and his seed shall inherit the land. 13 The LORD reveals his secret counsel to those who fear him, * and he will show them his covenant. 14 My eyes are ever looking to the LORD, * for he shall pluck my feet out of the net. ( 15 Turn to me, and have mercy on me, * for I am desolate and in misery. 16 The sorrows of my heart are enlarged; * O bring me out of my troubles. 17 Look upon my adversity and misery * and forgive me all my sin. 18 Consider my enemies, how many they are, * and how they bear a tyrannous hate against me. 19 O keep my soul and deliver me; * let me not be ashamed, for I have put my trust in you. 20 Let integrity and righteous dealing preserve me, * for my hope has been in you. 21 Deliver Israel, O God, * out of all his troubles. ) Philippians 2:1-132 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Matthew 21:28-3228 “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. 30 And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him. ♱ Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019. Ecclesiasticus 27:30-28:7Anger and wrath, these also are abominations, and the sinful man will hold them fast. 28 The one who seeks vengeance will be paid vengeance from the Lord, and he who keeps a record will have his own sins recorded. 2 Forgive your neighbor the wrong he has done, and then your sins will be pardoned when you pray. 3 Does one person harbor anger against another and yet seek for healing from the Lord? 4 Does he have no mercy toward someone like himself and yet pray concerning his own sins? 5 If he himself, being flesh, maintains wrath, who will make atonement for his sins? 6 Remember the end of your life and cease from enmity, remember destruction and death and be true to the commandments. 7 Remember the commandments and do not be angry with your neighbor; remember the covenant of the Most High and overlook error. Psalm 103:1-141 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, praise his holy Name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgives all your sin and heals all your infirmities, 4 Who saves your life from the pit and crowns you with mercy and loving-kindness, 5 Who satisfies you with good things, renewing your youth like an eagle’s. 6 The LORD executes righteousness and judgment for all those who are oppressed with wrong. 7 He showed his ways to Moses, his works to the children of Israel. 8 The LORD is full of compassion and mercy, long-suffering and of great goodness. 9 He will not always chide us, neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our wickedness. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his mercy also toward those who fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he set our sins from us. 13 As a father pities his own children, so is the LORD merciful to those who fear him. 14 For he knows whereof we are made; he remembers that we are but dust. Romans 14:5-125 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Matthew 18:21-3521 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. 23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. 24 When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. 28 But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ 30 He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. 32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.” · Sources: The Collect of the Day is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019.
